Candi Waelti-Johnson

Director

Candi accepted the Worldly Goods Directorship position in December of 2025, after serving as a staff member for two years. Having discovered a passion for fair trade and sustainability, as well as a dedication to helping the global community, Candi is excited for her new career.

Candi’s commitment to her community is evidenced by her 33 years as a special education teacher at Ballard Community Schools.  Before retiring in May 2023, Candi taught many students of varying abilities, helping them realize their individual goals in addition to providing guidance and leadership to fellow, and prospective, teachers.  She served on numerous committees and programs, contributing to the enrichment of the school as well as to the many lives she touched.

Education, outreach, and service continued beyond the classroom as Candi volunteered countless hours to the Ames Figure Skating Club, including serving three consecutive terms as club President, and eight years as the Competition Chairperson. She also served as an Iowa Games commissioner for eight years.

Candi earned her bachelor’s degree for Peru State College in 1990, and her master’s degree from Drake University in 1999.  She has been a proud member of the Ames community since 1990.
